Low APR Credit Cards

Top Low APR Credit Cards When searching for a new credit card it's tempting to go straight to the rewards cards. Fact is, low APR credit cards are the best choice for those who tend to carry over monthly balances. Credit card interest rates can quickly offset any rewards you've earned. A good rule of thumb, --if you can pay off your credit card balance each month then maximize your rewards, but if you carry over balances look for lower interest credit cards.

It's a simple concept. Interest rate is your cost to borrow money from the credit card company. If you pay back your balance in full before the grace period ends each month, then you don't have to pay any interest for the month. If some portion of your balance remains unpaid after the grace period, interest charges for that remaining amount will be added to your balance. With this in mind it a good idea to have at least one low APR credit card for large purchases where you will likely need several months to pay off the balance.

Getting a low APR credit card can save you a great deal in interest payments so they are definitely a smart card for anyone who will carry a monthly balance. If you have excellent credit you can often find low APR cards with rewards and other perks.

Choosing a low Interest Credit Card

Many low interest credit cards are available through banks and major credit card companies today. These generally do require a good credit score to obtain. A good credit score translates to less risk to the credit card issuer allowing them to offer lower rates. Whatever your credit score if you feel you are paying an abnormally high rate then its worth considering applying for a lower rate card.

When you evaluate low APR credit cards look first at the ongoing interest rate. The ongoing APR is the most important aspect, --you will have to live with the ongoing APR long after any introductory rates have expired. Carefully read the terms and conditions to confirm this rate will not change. Note that fixed APR's are not designed to adjust over time and credit card issuers must notify you if they change it. Variable APRs are linked to the prime rate and you can expect them to adjust up or down periodically.

Some low APR cards also offer attractive introductory rates and 0% balance transfers. But consider your goals. If you are seeking a great long term low APR card then don't compromise for short term introductory offers meant to draw you in.
